cannes lions 2007 das fist

Austrian agency of the year Das-Fist were in full effect at Cannes.

They could be heard shouting things such as;

Le Burger King, RingRingSucka, itsallaboutthebooty, i can feel it coming in the air, shortlistnogood, tonightmyfriendwedrink and the one and only; our advertising will crush you.

mk12 stranger than fiction GUI

film got sentimental to the end which is a shame but the graphics by MK12 are amazing. 

voda campaign

vodafone have been very brave to use lots of new styles with their campaigns, this billboard is a good example using tickets from supermarket counters, it would make a great GUI but on the down side when you google the headline it doesn't link to vodafone at all. So again a brand that creates great lines but doesn't follow this up with buying search words / terms from the campaign.

if you can't be bothered to buy against campaign headlines and words then stick a big web address on the poster.

great design by h&dm for portsmouth fc new ground but i feel that the old portsmouth area has been completely buggered with the gun wharf (even the name is shite) another shopping mall nightmare.

at least this will be a landmark building but would be better to have more space dedicated to non residential and retail use. Such as a museum and sports academy for the city maybe a modern art museum.

i agree with some comments that this would be much better in the tipner area to the north of the city where it badly needs regeneration. also the road access is much better to ease congestion and they could add in a new rail link from cosham to link with south coast and london trains.

Before 1995, there were only less than 3 Maldivians with a personal home page. Ten years later it has grown to a level that is hard to keep track of. More recently with the emergence of blogging, a lot more Maldivians have started to release their thoughts into the blogosphere.

irma boom

looking back at Irma Boom's SHV book from 1996 it reminds me of the way you would read a website by hyperlinking to other references and pages within a site. The book tells the history of 200 years of SHV comapny. The 2000 plus pages of this book are marked at folios by page dividers helping with this non linear experience of reading. the out side page edges are just a thing of beauty.

roma books

Roma Publications is an independent publishing project, founded by artist Mark Manders and graphic designer Roger Willems. It is used as a platform to produce autonomous publications in close collaboration with a growing number of artists, institutions, writers and designers. Related to the content, every issue has it own rule of appearance and distribution, varying from house to house papers to exclusive books. Until now the publications have editions between 2 and 150,000.

An amazing body of work from designer Roger Willems from 1999 to present 100 books in 8 years. I would imagine that it must be very hard to fund quality print work such as this to such a small audience.
