The important thing is to build the audience and then improve stuff as you go. Clients often look at digital as a one hit wonder when really it is about a long term progressive dialog with the users. If something doesn't work change it, if something is out of budget do it next quarter. This thinking is true for stats as well, use the real stats to give the user more of what they want.
